How do you pronounce this word? Is it "year-o" or "jyro" or what?

Supposedly "hyearo". Part "h", part "y".

It's like "year-o." Unfortunately, many Greek-Americans when talking to non-Greeks pronounce it the same as Americans so they will know what the hell they are talking about. Americans pronounce it like the first two syllables in "gyroscope".
