TV Guide: Cheers The Finale?

Did the final suck or was it funny?<
   Just to add fuel to the debate, I thought you guys and gals would be
interested in the latest issue to TV Guide. A entire page of cheers and
jeers are devoted to the final episode.<
   One jeer (which I've heard on this NG): Too many clips in the real
show after the 45 minute clip slow leading into the final episode.<
   Four cheers -- one for Larry David's script, one for the Seinfeld and
Costanza parents, one for appropriate commercials (which, I admit, is
kind of irrelevent to our debate), then a strong cheer for the final
standup in the prison: ``The comic coda was surreal, sportive, surprising
and sublime. In other words, consummately Seinfield.<
   In related news, Entertainment Weekly gives the Finale a poor review,
rating it as a C-minus. The article does, however, single out the final
prison standout routine as the best moment in the show.<
   Interesting sidelight -- the EW issue also grades other famous finales
and gives most of them high grades (The Mary Tyler Moore final edges out
the Newhart final as the best ever). Surprisingly, the one finale to get
a worse grade that the Seinfield wrapup was the MASH final, which rates a
D.<
   Let the sniping begin!!<
