I think we are missing the point. Susan Died and the other guy from NBC died because they did not pick up the pilot.

Susan had been fired, thanks to George, long before the decision not to pick up the pilot was made. The decision was not made by Russell Dalrymple (he had already joined Green Peace) but by his replacement.
