Fans debate which episode is the worst, with the pilot criticized for being unfunny and poorly established, while others defend it and point to later episodes like The Calzone or the finale as worse.
I'd have to definitely say the pilot. The first episode was pretty bad--not very funny, hardly anything memorable about the episode, no Elaine, etc. I think it's just because it was the very first episode and hardly anything was really established. It's amazing that Seinfeld got picked up based upon that pilot.

My personal "un" favourite would be "The Calzone". I would guess its been played more times than any other in Australia (or at least SEEMS that way)

I totally disagree, I think the pilot is one of the better episodes. The dialogue between Jerry and George is great. Personally, I found the finale very disappointing.

I know all that but I think this is a good indication of the fact that clever doesn't always equal funny or even enjoyable I find the stuff where everyone's laughing at Jerry's haircut amusing. And the end scene with Kramer at the bachelor auction has one of my favourite lines ever: "em... he likes fruit". But while I smiled at the cleverness/daring of the main theme of the operatic haircut infidelity the first time, there was nothing there to make me want to watch it again. And when it's turn comes round on my cyclical viewings, I'm just thinking forward to The Masseuse :)

I never liked The Maid. That's the only episode so far, that I've actually considered leaving the sofa. It's not the story that's wrong, just the complete lack of tempo right before the end of the episode. Plus some unfunny funniness. Of course, it could be because I was so stressed up because it was one of the last episodes. Anyway, it's the one that disappointed me the most.
I hated the one with the drunk guy who owned Farfel or whatever, that dog. HATED that one.
Regarding the pilot, if what I've seen was the pilot, was bad. Way too much of his standup act, plus the apartment is totally different. Plus Kramer owned a dog. Plus in the first few episodes, Morty Seinfeld was played by a different guy... so there's a lot of retooling for ya!

But isn't that the one with the Elaine/George awkwardness (and discussion of Jerry's vomiting) and Kramer's break-up which turns into a reconciliation ("How could I be with someone like you.... I love you"). And Jerry's line of that girlfriend "I'm surprised no-one's killed her yet". LOVED that one. :)

I thought that was great. It mimicked the works of Pinter (hence the name of Elaine's boyfriend). I thought it was something unexplored and different in the sitcom business. It was quite well done IMO.
The Dealership. Its a terrible episode. It is probably the only epsiode which I would ever turn off. So poorly written.

The "candy lineup". Come'on, why would George get his hands on some candy, set them up, and not eat any? That was stretching the viewers' credibility a bit.

I agree with other posters that the Farfel dog episode and the finale were also clunkers. The pilot was a bit slow at times, although I'm a bit more forgiving of it since it was just a pilot.

Im my opinion, although there were weaknesses in some of the episodes, there was always something going on that redeemed the episode. For this reason, there are no 'bad' episodes, just bad parts of episodes.
"The Baby Shower" shits me up the wall. The pregnant woman is apparently, according to George, extremely attractive. She's got a worse haircut than Wendy Malick as the physiotherapist, and what's under the hair isn't much better. Of course, it's not the only thing I hate about it, but it's the main thing. I think "The Dealership" is a riot, however, and the candy line-up, although completely unlikely, does seem to fit in with George's wacked personality. The man was a nut, don't forget.

I gotta disagree with the majority of the posters here, I really enjoyed The Finale. It was a very appropriate episode because Seinfeld has always been touted as a "Show about nothing", so this unspectacular (but very funny) episode highlighted what the entire 9 series were about. I liked the way it ended because it meant that a reunion episode(s) could be made as no characters were killed off or ruined (marriage etc.). The main fact about The Finale was that it wasn't corny, it was just as off the wall and unpredictable as the other 178 episodes. I loved it.
The bottom line is this: with all the hype surrounding the finale of Seinfeld, it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible to live up to expectations. Its the Super Bowl Syndrome...if people are waiting and waiting to see it, it will almost never meet the expectations of the people.

The storyline itself, as well as the situations that came, was, I agree with almost everyone, poor. And in the end it was the guest stars acting as witnesses that made the episode at least something. I liked Peterman and Steinbrenner in particular. In that respect I missed Newman, but I'm afraid he had too much too testify ;-)
