Seinfeld Contradictions

One episode Elaine says something to Kramer about showers and Kramer says "I take baths" ....Then in the "Low Flow" shower head episode or the Cooking the the shower episode Kramer acts as if he never has taken a bath and describes them as "sitting in a tepid pool of your own filth"

Episode where Jerry eats the Black and White cookie and breaks the vomit streak and throws up of for the first time in many many years.......Episode where Elaine and George have nothing to talk about but they find common ground in how funny it is the way Jerry throws up, something they seem to have both seen several times.

What always bothered ME (though it isn't a consistency thing) is WHY would Newman get a WHOLE pot? I am sure the Soup Nazi, being who he is, would insist on giving away equal portions to all.

Think about how Newman behaved in that soup place before... he was the perfect fast, accurate and thouroughly nazi! Perhaps he is one of these high party members that get everything they want...

Wow. I do remember the debates. Indeed, I had never noticed this until it came up on the newsgroup, but I had no idea that the issue had been settled so definitively.

I never claimed it definitive. Call it a plausible hypothesis. Seems reasonable to me. Do you have a more plausible hypothesis? Based on prior discussions of this in this group, are you suggesting that writer contradiction is a more plausible hypothesis?

I honestly think it was simply sloppy writing, the writers went for the cheap laugh.

I always saw that moment as though Jerry was going straight to the Soup stand and foregoing the pot from home. Sort of beating Newman to the punch and buying the whole pot and soup from Yev Kassem. (he's not a Nazi) : )

At least that's how I've always looked at it....

The first time Sid Farkus (the guy at the bra company) shows up, he was the boss of Frank Costanza's friend (who remained unseen in the episode). The next tim he showed up, Sid Farkus was Frank's friend directly.

The first time we see Sally Weaver, she was working for FedEx. In a later episode, she's a struggling comedian/actress. What, did she just chuck it all to follow her muse?

Do you realize that the second show [The Cartoon] she was in was a response to her real stand-up act where she talked about the negative Seinfeld experience she had doing the first episode [The Doll].

That is why they wrote it that way, to parallel the real events of her insulting Jerry in her act. She talked about wanting to get an autograph for her niece when on the show, or something, but Jerry was too busy and wouldn't spare any time for the guest performers.

I did not know that. And Jerry was OK with this scenario for "The Cartoon"? That seems odd.

I rank this at the bottom of the barrel for Seinfeld episodes (like many of the ones in season 8 and 9). But this one was really down there. It was silly - that George, dying of hunger, would create a 'candy line-up' - a cheap gimmick, taken too far. Not to mention the whole Putty and Elaine breaking up/back together gag, also used to death. The funniest element was Kramer bonding with the car salesman..

A Steven Koren episode. They are full of these "gimmycky" ideas, but not really an idea that would carry trough whole episode and always a bit out of character from what we know. Other Koren's writing credits episodes:

The Abstinence (George becomes a genious)

The English Patient (Kramer hires Dominicans, Elaine suddenly likes silly movies, Jerry vs. Izzy)

The Serenity Now (Elaine's shiks-appeal, Kramer's 'anytown USA' and Jerry gets feelings)

The Dealership (whole candy-lineup, Jerry getting screwed, Elaine and Puddy's greasemonkey and high-five split-up)

The Frogger (Jerry dating Mad-Libs, Elaine stealing an old cake, George planning a Frogger-move with Kramer's friends)

Sure, full of funny parts, but all a bit out of character and kind of out there considering Seinfeld's usual episode with things that could happen to anyone.

That's what happened when Larry David left. Larry understood the value of good writing that kept the characters true to their established nature. Larry also wrote, and kept other writers, focused on real people issues and human angst, not the gimmicks and silliness of years 8 and 9.
