"Watching Ellie" is back...

After what has it been two years of hiatus, its back?

I thought this show was gone for good, I don't care for the show much, but im sure someone out there must like it because the "Real Time" show is back.

Lets see if Julia can pull this off...

Emmy Award-winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("Seinfeld") returns for a second season as the star of the half-hour comedy detailing the life of a Los Angeles club singer, Ellie Riggs (Louis-Dreyfus). Ellie is a single woman living in Los Angeles who each week confronts all manner of annoyances - whether she's sacrificing artistry for her next paycheck or returning to her shrink to confront relationship issues. Surrounding Ellie's world is her pretty, married younger sister Susan (Lauren Bowles, "Ghost World"); her ex-boyfriend with an offbeat sense of humor, Edgar (Steve Carell, "The Daily Show"); her on-again/off-again boyfriend, band guitarist Ben (Darren Boyd, BBC's "Smack the Pony"); and her oddball veterinarian neighbor, Dr. Zimmerman (Don Lake, "Best in Show").

This season, show is filmed in front of studio audience. "Watching Ellie"is written and created by executive producer Brad Hall (NBC's "Saturday Night Live," "Brooklyn Bridge"), and is produced by NBC Studios.

I for one adore JLD, and will watch Ellie for that reason alone (oh, and that voice!). But I find the rest of the cast very odd and irritating.

I hate the Ellie character, I know she is making a point to not be like Elain of fear of being type casted. But the sad truth is she will never be as good as her old character. Julia just retire, raise your kids and sit on the pot of money you and your husband has made.

Oh shuddup! It's not JLD's fault that the show sucks. Someone has this crazy notion that it's funny to surround JLD with a bunch of horny guys lobbing dumb pickup lines or getting all flummoxed in her presence. To be fair, I only watched a minute or two but some guy made a joke about the north pole being in hip Lapland or something and that was all I needed to move on. God, awful.

If Mr. Louis-Dreyfus is still at the helm of this miserable show she should divorce him, professionally speaking.

Im glad they got rid of the real time aspect, but if JLD wants to make it on primetime she better start taking more control of her show. Jerry controlled every aspect of his show. She needs to get Larry David on her payroll, or get some guest appearances from the cast of Seinfeld. Hell get Newman if you have to.

The core problem is the star's remarkable lack of talent.

I liked it and will watch the rest of the shows that are aired. The scene with Julia cavorting in front of her boyfriend was very reminiscent of Elaine.

I laughed during the course of the show and thought it was better that a lot of comedies on the current television lineup (My Wife and Kids, 8 simple rules, Life with Jim, Bonnie Hunt, ...etc.)

I like Hidden Hills a lot, but that was on in the current time slot for Watching Ellie (And I liked the real time aspect - oh well)

It was obviously not scripted, and he was just improvising and the whole cast was laughing their heads off... Apart from that, her show is pretty bad...

I hope it grows overtime, I do have to agree JLD was one of the weaker of the Fab 4 but with the right supporting cast it could grow. Oh well I give the show 6 weeks.

People, I think you're seeing "Watching Ellie" with your Seinfeld glasses on.... and there will only ever be ONE Seinfeld. The really funny spots are getting closer and closer together and the show will, if given the run, be top shelf in its own right.

You can't tell me you're suffering watching JLD while this is going on! Julia, you crack me up!

Nonsense. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has had success outside of "Seinfeld," such as at "Saturday Night Live." She does have some comedic talent -- but it may not be as a sitcom lead (as opposed to part of a sitcom ensemble as on "Seinfeld"). And there's no inherent shame in that; lightning strikes twice in the same category for very few sitcom actors.

I could see her doing something musical -- one good thing about "Watching Ellie" is that it reminds people what a capable singing voice she has -- but can that format convert into episodic TV? She may have to consider movie or stage work to go in that direction, and that may not work well with her schedule and family concerns. Moreover, converting from one medium to another isn't always the easiest thing to do, since the audiences for each are far different.

In a professional way, I feel sorry for Julia that the ghost of Elaine will haunt her for the rest of her career (note I used the caveat "professional"; personally, she can probably live an extremely comfortable life on "Seinfeld" residuals and wise investments), and that barring something really major, she'll never quite be able to escape that character. I think one major mistake was naming the new character "Ellie"; it's simply too close to Elaine to avoid the comparisons.

IMO, she wasn't very funny on SNL but, again, that could be down to the writing. SNL generally kinda sucks anyway - they had two good periods: the first three or so seasons and then in the late 80's/early 90's with Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman.

I remember that JLD's career started a resurgence when she was on sumb dumb sitcom and I think her character was named "Eileen" (again with the E names?!). The character was kinda similar to that blonde who was on Bob Newhart's second sitcom (the one set in Vermont). I was happy at the time that she'd redeemed herself after SNL - but who knew what the future held?

You haven't seen her in "A Mighty Wind", she's great in that.
