Jerry says this to crazy Joe Davola in the episode where they first go to NBC to pitch the idea for the "show about nothing." What is this referring to?

I took it to be a reference to John Hinkley, who attempted to assasinate Ronald Reagan to impress Jodie Foster.

And was institutionalized. My take is that Jerry was insinuating that Joe was returning to a mental institution since's he's ...uh...mentally unstable. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

David Hinckley (sp?), the wacko who shot Ronald Reagan in 1981. Hinckley later claimed he shot Reagan in order to get the attention of Jodie Foster.

Correction: John Hinkley (I must have been thinking about David Brinkley).

Actually, David Hinckley is one of the Daily News' media critics. Hmmm...coincidence, I think not.

Hinkley was the guy who shot President Reagan. He successfully used an insanity plea for his defense.

John Hinkley, the guy who shot either Reagan or John Lennon (I get these lunatics confused sometimes!). Saying "give my best to Hinkley" would be to insinuate that the person being addressed is just as bonkers as that nutcase.
