the very first episode

what was the very first episode of seinfeld about? i don't think i've ever seen it. what happened on it? anyone care to enlighten me?

A girl Jerry met on the road wants to stay with him when she comes to New York. George thinks that she is just using Jerry as contingency plan. Hoffman (Kramer) comes by to borrow a couple of pieces of meat. The girl calls and asks Jerry if she can stay at his apartment for the night, when she arrives she asks to stay for another night. Jerry is disappointed when everything is going his way until he finds out she is engaged.

This is the one where she flys in from another city and asks if she can stay with Jerry? But then she asks to use his phone, and with Jerry right there, she calls her husband and says how sweet Jerry is?

If that's it, I've seen it, yahooo! But the funny thing is I don't remember Michael Richards in it (he was supposed to be "hoffman" right?) What role did hoffman play? Did he live across the hall from Jerry?

Yes, he lived across the hall. And he looked quite different back then. He had short hair, he wasn't cleanly shaven and he acted quite mellow compared to later years. He even knocked on Jerry's door! Also, some scenes were later re-filmed and Hoffman's name was changed to Kramer.

Ofcourse Michael Richards was there in this episode! He advises Jerry 'why give her an option', when Jerry tries to find another bed(sofa) for her. But the thing is, Kramer looks much much slower in this episode. He enters the room slowly unlike his usual way of zooming through the door.

Richards is Hoffman, a kind of undeveloped Kramer, who comes into the apartment and wants meat.

Also, no Elaine, different restaurant, Kramer's name was Hoffman and he owned a dog.... A woman wants to stay with Jerry while she's in town, but is engaged to someone else.

It also seems to me in this episode that the roles of Jerry and George are reversed. Meaning, that George seems to be the one on top of everything. If this episode were written now, I see George as the one having trouble reading the woman.
