I think there might have been at least 2 movie references on the 1/9 episode. Can anyone verify this?
1. When the bodega owner wants the rooster to throw the fight, and Jerry says they don't go down for anyone.
2. At the end, when they go into slow motion during the fight, with them all yelling "No!". < Rocky I, or Raging Bull maybe? >

There was another reference I think. The dog with the glove clearly references to the penguin with the glove in the clay animation feature "Wallace and Gromit: A close shave" by Bill Park.

correct, only the title of the film with the penguin is "the wrong trousers". "a close shave" was the one with the sheep.

The movie you are referring to is "On the Waterfront" w/ Brando and Karl Malden. "From Here to Eternity" was with Lancaster, Sinatra, and Clift. It was about army life prior to Pearl Harbor.

Marlon Brando was not in the film, "From Here To Eternity." FHTE starred: Burt Lancater, Montgomery Clift and Ernest Borgnine.

Here's what I hope is the definitive answer regarding the "contender" quote.
The full quote is:
"I could've been a contender. I could've had class and been somebody. Real class. Instead of a bum, let's face it, which is what I am."
This quote is from the Budd Schulberg screenplay "On the Waterfront" (1954), and was spoken by Marlon Brando. Brando may have spoken the word "could've" as "coulda", in imitation of local speech; I'd need to see the film again to be sure. However, I've seen the line often quoted as "I coulda been a contender".
BTW, it took me literally a minute or so to find the source of the quote and its text (as it appears in the screenplay.) It took longer to type it in.

Didn't anyone notice the nod to "Falling Down" - Jerry goes to buy something at the store with his canceled check posted, asks the guy how much for the item. Jerry says "85 cents! Now that's outrageous!" I was expecting him to pull out a baseball bat and start trashing the store!
I definately thought of Raging Bull when he said he won't take a dive for anyone! That was one of the funniest episodes this year (tied for "Bizzaro Jerry" I think).
Yes, great episode. The slow motion was from Raging Bull and (I suspect) other boxing movies. Loved George ordering tamale in slow-mo.
