Question

Fans question whether Arby's actually exists in NYC, given the restaurant chain's limited presence there, with discussion veering into appreciation for Arby's menu items.

Hi All

Regarding the last episode where Elaine and Puddy go to an Arby's for lunch and help Jerry buy the new Saab.

As far as I know there are no Arby's restaurants in NYC. I did stop between Albany and Westchester on the NYS Thruway, but other than that, I think there may be a few in Suffolk.

Any thoughts?

You have my sympathy. I LOVE Arby's. Cheap and quick, and better than a plain old burger. There's one about a mile from my house. About once a month, they have a 5 for $5 deal on roast beef sandwiches, and they freeze well, so there's always at least one in the freezer.

I thought it was funny when Elaine said "I had the roast beef."
like it was some fancy restaurant. While I'll agree it's NO place
to celebrate a job promotion, Arby's is still a cut above the
standard burger joint.

HEY! Ratboy and I AGREE on something!!!

Arby's is great. I love the Chicken Fillet Sandwiches especially, but everything on the menu is good. Also, if you like Burger King's new fries, you'll love Arby's.

It was bound to happen if you stuck around long enough.

Ah. Beef 'n Cheddar for me. Mmmmmmmm.

But what's the deal with the 'Horsey Sauce'?? I don't care to ingest any product made from horses...

Especially glue. :) [email] (Hammer nail here--> <-- for a new monitor.) (Remove XXXX to reply)

Why is it when you order one of the Arby's sub-type sandwiches they give you a half-gallon of "au jus"? Has anybody ever some close to finishing one of those?

Mike

My female friend likes those. When we go there, she and her two daughters each order one. They finish up their own "jus" as well as mine. I use it, but not all of it.

I'm amused by the places which serve something "with au jus."

This is funny.

Hope you never get in a war or famine situation where you have to eat corn which has already been eaten once by horses! YUCK. That will probably never wind up on the Wendy's 99 cent menu.

But the reverse of that isn't true! I love Arby's, can't STAND the "new" Burger King fries. Nasty, nasty, nasty. P-U! Yukko! Blech! Pa-tooie! Spit 'em out! Gagh! Bleah!

Obviously, our tastes differ. I loved Arby's back in the '70s when they served real roast beef, not that processed shit they pass off as roast beef now.

Just my $.02

It's not just Arby's, it's all fast food joints. Howbout that
100% TVP that McDonald's tries to pass off as a hamburger?
Please. Vegetarians can eat whatever they want there
and not have to worry about it.

TVP = Textured vegetable protein. Ask someone in the food service industry, they'll tell you all about it.

I agree that Arby's was better in the 70's. What they sell today is tasteless and just not the same.

There used to be a far superior chain called Rax. Gread roast beef, ymmy sauce, delicious shakes and cookies.

In the late 80's their beef degraded, the sauce changed, the shakes became bland, and every location I know of (save one, in Orlando) transformed into an Arby's shortly thereafter. Rumor had it that Arby's had taken over the chain, ruined it, then supplanted it.

Anyone have further info?

Yeah, Rax! I lived on the Gulf Coast, Ocean Springs/Biloxi and I remember those great Rax roast beef sandwiches. I wondered what happened to them? Also, what about Crystal burgers, those little hamburgers, 20 for $1.00!

So that's where Rax came from! I saw one at an Ohio Turnpike rest area last year, and I had never heard of the chain before.

About 10 years ago I think I had lunch at an Arby's on lower Broadway in Manhattan, somewhere near the Antique Boutique.

It appeared to me they were somewhere on the outskirts of NYC, because it took some driving on highways and barren roads before Kramer's test drive got to the city and back. -Kenny
