The Real Kramer

I was listening to the radio yesterday, and they had an interview with Kenny Kramer, the real Kramer, and he was talking about the show.

He didn't sound anything like Kramer, and he actually talked with a New York accent (it's funny how all those shows like Friends, Seinfeld, Caroline in the City, etc. are all taking place in N.Y., yet none of them have the accent.)

He mentioned the Contest, and he said that it actually did happen, except in reality he didn't enter it, because he knew he would lose.

He also said that when Larry David was planning to start making the Seinfeld Show, he approached Kenny and asked him if it was ok to use his character. Kenny said that he asked if he could play the part, but they told him that he wasn't right to play Kramer. When Michael Richards started playing Kramer, Kenny says he didn't even visit with him or speak with him about the part. They only met after about the 35th episode.

New York City: tons of people move there from elsewhere. (thus lack a NY accent). And even those who grow up there don't all have NY accents.

Really? Jerry and George have New York (city) accents! (or maybe closer to Long Island/Queens accents).

Whaddya mean, accent? What accent? Dey sound OK to me! We don't got no accent here in Noo Yawk! :-)

How to spot a fake "New York accent": When training non-New Yorkers, acting coaches tell actors playing gangsters and other street types to make believe they have a mouthful of marbles. If you hear an actor talk as if he has a mouthful of marbles, it's a fake accent.

I didn't realize there was a real kramer actually thats hilarious....a real kramer....anyway was he friends with Jerry or something...who knew him that was in a position to write the show....

George, Jerry (sometimes), George's parents and Jerry's parents all have NY accents. Of course, Joey from Friends has one as well.

"Joey" is from Massachusetts. Went to H.S. in Billerica, I think.
