Just decided to see if there was a discussion on Seinfeld, and  here I
am, so there must be.  I thought I was the only fanatic who knew every
show by heart,  but re-reading some posts, I see I've found competition.
I have almost every episode recorded and as you know, it's one fine
show.  I recently obtained a Seinfeld bloopers tape from someone
advertising on a personal web page.  I didn't know what to expect, and
after receiving it, I've concluded it's gotta be an illegal bootleg copy
that the Seinfeld crew put together for personal use.  The guy who sells
these is from New Jersey, and must know someone who knows someone.  It's
2 hrs. long, not the best quality but certainly watchable, and has
outtakes from most seasons.  He said that this tape was playing during
the Peterman Reality Bus Tour for the passengers (Don't know how he
knows).  It's pretty neat.  It's weird hearing them use all the foul
language and some scenes aren't even bloopers, but still on unedited
film.  For the most part, it's the gang missing lines, pulling pranks
(One is of Jerry and Elaine pretending to make out in the background of
a party scene to freak everyone out- my favorite), and stuff like that.
Pretty cool... have any of you gotten or seen this tape?  I wish I knew
more about its original purpose, and if it is legal or not.
   Don't mean to carry on.. I got it a few days ago, and it's still on
my mind.  My favorite episode's gotta be where Kramer finds the Merv
Griffin backdrop.  Least favorite: don't really have one, but the early
shows lack the hilarity of the 2nd season and on I guess.   And here's
some trivia for you: What is the name of the song Jerry and George agree
to be the signal when they're replacing the answering machine tape of
George's girl at the time.

Hi Jeremy, welcome to the group who are still loving Sein a year after his unfortunate decision. Glad you found us.

The song was "Lemon Tree" but George panicked and just shouted "tippy toe, tippy toe, lemon tree" to Jerry since the woman was on her way back in the room. It cracks me up and I end up repeating that line several times every time I see that show.

Yah that's right Lemon Tree (by who...does anyone know?) And...what was the song George wanted to use as the signal? I believe it was something like "...everybody wants to know a girl like Maria..." (or something like that....someone help me out)

Don't know who wrote it, but Peter, Paul and Mary had a big hit of "Lemon Tree" in 1962. I think Trini Lopez also had a hit with it.

Prompted by your question, I looked up "Lemon Tree" on the International Lyrics Server, since I have never knew the song either! From what I can gather, the song was written by Will Holt and recorded by several people, most notably Peter, Paul, and Mary. As for the song George wanted to use, that was "How Do you Solve a Problem Like Maria," from the musical "The Sound of Music", starring Julie Andrews in the film version. Very fitting, I think, since Jason Alexander was a theater actor before he was in Seinfeld...

I didn't know it was a "real" song for a long time either. It used to be in a commercial for Lemon Pledge - "Lemon Pledge while you're dusting..." (that's all I remember).

I will answer my own question: I watched the episode last night and George refers to the song: "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" The question is...is this a real song?

Yes it is a real song.....from a very famous musical. Have you ever heard of The Sound of Music? Maria is played by Julie Andrews. It is the second song into the movie....OK..I am older than some of you. LOL

Thank you both for pointing out the source of the song. I am embarassed to admit that I have never actually seen 'The Sound of Music'. Everyone I know has seen it and they all tell me they loved it. I better get off my A$ and stop watching Seinfeld syndication long enough to fit it in. :) Don't ya think?

I can't remember the song they decide on, but George came up with ideas of saying "Tippytoe" and singing "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" Either way, at one point he just yelled out "Tippytoe!"
