When Kramer is pretending to be a doctor and mentions to George that he is "Juilliard" trained, I was thinking about alt.tv.seinfeld and was wondering if most got that joke or not. In New York, Juilliard School is a famous arts school. They have no medical school.

I wondered the same thing--I was at my parents' place the other day and watched that episode with my father. I'm a musician so I knew of Julliard, but as the joke was coming up I thought to myself, "I wonder if he'll understand the Julliard remark?" But then he laughed out loud at that part, so I guess we can assume the Average Joe will get the joke. :-)
That is one of my favotite Kramer lines, I totally crack up every time I hear it. I assumed everyone knew about Julliard, but I guess Icould be wrong. Bob

I didn't know about the Julliard joke either (and I'm a musician). I came from a little town in province of Quebec, far away from Montreal and Quebec city. All the references to movies, commercials (the Wiz), etc., and even the dovetailing story lines never really made me laugh even if I got them. Of course, I noticed that there was dovetailing stories, but I was never excpecting or searching for it in every new episodes I saw, and I seldom laughed from it. What really got to me in Seinfeld's humor is perfectly described here by Mike:
�...things real people could identify with; mostly human relationships and personal failure and triumphs.�
That is the essence of Seinfeld's humor IMO.

I won't know what "we" you are speaking for. As mentioned by some posters, not everyone knew. I don't regard someone not getting every joke to be above or below anything, it just has to do with their experiences.
