Viewers debate George's character, with some finding his neurotic loser persona off-putting while others appreciate him as comedy relief and a relatable everyman.
The only thing about this show that irks me is George. He's always worrying about stuff and complaining. I don't see how ANY woman would want to stay with him.
AND - I was really disappointed in George when I watched the show last night and he was pushing in front of all these little children to escape a fire. How sad is that?

It isn't easy for George. He knows that he is a loser. He is just looking for a way to get through his day.
After his tap dance about running out from the fire, the fireman and George summed it up:
Fireman: "How can you live with yourself?" George: "It ain't easy."

Hahaha... oh man, good one. When I read the description for that episode in the last TV listing, I was laughing out loud, and saying to myself, "God, that is so George!" This week's episode looks promising... anything slightly controversial (especially between the two sexes - topless women bathers or George being seen without his drawers on) is bound to be good.

Just had to write in to vioce my supprot for George. People seldom give credit to actors who play George-type characters (although I can't think of a single character as extreme as George), they just assume that the actor is like that in real life. Being George must take at least as much skill as being Kramer. Thumbs up to Jason Alexander.
I also agree that the show would lose a lot without George. None of the stuff that happens to him could ever happen to the other characters- he is the ULTIMATE loser. What's even funnier is that whenever he starts to realize what a loser he is, and give up all hope of being cool, something happens to give him some hope, and he's off again.
