Just saw a Friends episode from Season 3 (show #2) called TOW no one's ready and I thought it had a Seinfeld type theme. It was mostly a show about nothing. Actually, Ross wants everyone to get ready for his museum banquet but problems exist with the other friends.
Has anyone else seen this episode and relate it to Seinfeld's nothing theme?!
I remember seeing it but I didn't feel a relation til now... well maybe subconsciously I felt the connection...
Please dont mention 'Friends' and Seinfeld in the same message ever again. The two are about as diametrically opposed as two things ever could be, and 'Friends' will never even come close to emulating the brilliance that exuded from Seinfeld on a weekly basis.... Yeah, that's true, but let's all face it, Friends is, in fact, "Seinfeld Lite"...it's one of the many shows out there trying to be Seinfeld...a show about a bunch of single New Yorkers who do nothing but complain...sadly that is mostly what we single New Yorkers do, but still it's apparant that Friends (and just about anything else on NBC) is simply a Seinfeld-almost...
In a sense, Seinfeld itself redefined the sitcom...it led to the transition from the physical comedy we came to love from I Love Lucy and Three's Company, to the "talk-talk-talk" comedy Seinfeld is so loved for...of course the reason Seinfeld worked was because it also included some of the physical stuff, that's the whole point of Kramer being there...most shows today just do the talk, they leave out the walk...

Except that both shows star petty adolescent adult that would engage in petty arguements over things like wedgies. The thing that irritates me about Friends that all of the main characters use the same style of speaking catch phrases. None come to mind right now, but every so often one would say something and it would seem soooo like another character. Usually it's a line that fits Pheopie best, but doesn't sound right coming from a different character. The actors in Seinfeld never did that. If a catch phrase was said by more than one character, each actor would make his/her own.

Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Matthew, David, and Lisa Kudrow, who plays Phoebe, now make ?3.5 million a year from Friends. They're amongst the highest-paid actors on TV. They're only beaten by Anthony Edwards who plays Dr Green in ER, on ?250,000 per episode and George Clooney, who'll earn ?600,000 per episode for his guest appearances on the show. They all have a long way to go to beat Jerry Seinfeld, who's still holding out on an offer to increase his pay from ?1 million to ?3 million per episode of Seinfeld.

Yep, I believe everyone does it, but we do in a way that mimics the show. The characters on the show don't do it that way. They each say these phrase as if they are signature phases. It just smacks of lack of attention to detail. It's like if "The Opposite" happened spontaneously without explanation. It's like their all pod people drawing from the same mother brain.
