in jerry's apartment; jerry is expecting someone: the intercom buzzes. jerry: uh? someone: uh! jerry buzzes him/her in.
this is one of my favorite moments in all the seinfelds i have seen. i believe it defines one of the characteristics of the show: playing with a situation common to many of us. actually, that characteristic comes from jerry's standup routine. but in this scene, no drawn out explanation could replace it; thus, a tv show exists (about "nothing") instead of a half an hour of jerry doing standup. jerry, elaine, george, and kramer know each other so well, including their speech, that the practice becomes, "why waste energy in polite conversation through the intercom?" which is exactly where many of us will end up. excellent.
