Well, as long as we've got that pointless scene of the plane almost crashing in the middle, how about if, after they're convicted, they wake up (Massachusetts was a dream) together on a desert island. Their plane crashed. They'll have enough food, but they'll only have the four of each other for life.
To twist it up a little bit more, it can turn out that they all had the same dream.
Just what we need. Another lame dream sequence. And they all had the same dream. How ingenius.
Actually, I'm not a big fan of "It was all a dream" either. But they needed something to explain why that episode kept getting worse and worse, way more implausible than the rules usually allow and nightmarish.
I didn't like the finale but am glad if others did.

the plane scene wasn't pointless -- it allowed George to admit he lost the contest, and Elaine to reveal (though she back-pedalled later) that she loves Jerry.
Also it was a spoof of the *possibility* of a cop-out ending, just like the Jerry sitcom/move to L.A. bit was a spoof of another stupid possibility (and perhaps a jab at those who believed the fake intenet script? (or maybe that rumor was started by someone who only read the beginning the script?))
Plus, it was funny... if that counts.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. There have already been too many series finales with "it-was-all-a-dream" endings: Newhart, Roseanne, Dallas. I for one am glad that Seinfeld didn't go in that direction; I would have hated that!
