In "The Apology": The cut the whole dag-nabbed beginning intro, with the fetching blonde!

Jerry: [wapping a spoon on the kitchen counter]: Any second now.

Jerry: Light is on! Melissa, waffles are ready.

Melissa: [walks in naked] Oh fantastic! I'm starving.

Jerry: How about that.

[Melissa giggles, Jerry mockingly laughs]

Rarely do they cut entire scenes. Later, they snipped out this exchange where Puddy and Elaine are in Peggy's bedroom. Right after Peggy says "I can assure you I don't have any problem with germs," they cut out Puddy saying:

Puddy: Don't you? Elaine. [Elaine leans into her.]

Peggy: Oh please!

You barely notice that cut, and there may be more. My guess is Castle Rock is cutting things that are self-evident, redundant or pointless... but the trouble is the whole show was about pointless things! At least they kept one of my favorite lines, "I don't think I'd trust him with a v-neck!"

Which begs the question, how did you notice these cuts?

The third time I watched there were even more cuts !

I doubt if I'll ever get to see all the original episodes again.

It doesn't, actually. The phrase "beg the question" does not mean what most people think it means.

If you've seen the episode previously in non-syndicated form, sometimes you notice things missing in the re-runs.

Actually one of the main Simpsons sites has a list of syndication cuts. Maybe someone with a lot of time on their hands wants to do the same thing for Seinfeld? :-)

The Strike: they kept the intro, (the watley party,) but after the festivus card scene in the coffe shop, (Where they cut Jerry saying the line, "This is what I'm trying to teach you,") they cut the following bit in Jerry's apmt:

Kramer: Hey neighbor

Jerry: Are you reading my vcr manual?

Kramer: Well we can't all be reading the classics, Professor Highbrow.

That's a great line! Then, this is relatively weird, they cut the following coffee shop bit which they used in a commercial for the show 15 minutes before the show started!

George: So she was switching, back and forth?

Jerry: The whole time. She was like a 3-D baseball card that changes depending on the angle

George: So one minute she's pretty and at the plate, and the next, she's ugly and advancing the runner.

George: So what happened next?

Jerry: Well, we stopped by here, and....

Then the syndicated episode started with Jerry saying the only place she looked good was in that back booth.

More episode close-captioning minutia: The NBC broadcast had Elaine saying "Bite me!" after receiving the fake number from Denim Vest, but she actually said "Blimey!" Now on the syndicated episode, the close-captioning said "Blimey!" So they switched the captioning for the syndicated episodes! Unreal. At the end of the show when they fade out withe snow falling in Queens, the NBC broadcast had the captioning, which was never spoken:

Estelle: His gall bladder is shot.

Frank: Happy Festivus George.

And one more Kramer minutia: the captioning for Kramer is always a laugh, but this one had me rolling: "Frank, no offense, but this holiday's a little (noises) out there!" For the noises, the captioning said: "Chirp chirp chirp!"

It's a pretty good episode with some good writing, with George saying "Don't you see how wrong that is? Where's your Christmas spirit? An eye for an eye!"

Then maybe it's not castle rock who's doing the cutting, or perhaps they offer 2 or 3 different edited packages to stations. The waffle scene wasn't on where I watch it... and they ran the Seinfeld, Alexander, Louis-Dreyfuss & Richards credits over the Jerry & George chat in the diner.

I know what's been cut because I taped the shows from the network broadcast in '97 & '98, and I slid the tape and ran it as the syndicated show aired, and noted what they took a hacksaw to.
