The coffee shop in Seinfeld

The neon sign does say "Tom's Restaurant," but just on one side (the left, from Seinfeld perspective). In some episodes the "Tom's" is cropped out, and in others it is hidden by camera angles.

Incidentally, I had lunch at Tom's last week when I was in the City. It's at 112th Street and Broadway, near Columbia U. The astute Seinfeld viewer will notice how the set of Monk's does not match the exterior shot of Tom's, and that holds true when one actually goes in Tom's. It's not nearly as nice as the Monk's set, but it is a very authentic, typical NYC greasy-spoon. Good club sandwiches.

Sorry, man. I guess it slipped my mind to check for the gang's traditional culinary delights. I really don't know what their menu's got besides club sandwiches and burgers and stuff like that. My guess, though, is that they only exist at Monk's.

He's right...the restaurant looks way different than the set does. Not nearly as roomy as the TV version. Oddly, I was fortunate enough to stumble across the place during my only NYC visit...the perfect end to a fun week in NY. The owner of the place would not really say one way or the other whether it really is "the coffee shop." He just smiles and shrugs. They do sell a T-shirt there, however, which makes a small ref. to the show, and to a Suzanne Vega song ("Tom's Diner") followed by a couple of "???"s. I only had a danish, and coffee, of course. A plastic-wrapped danish, at that. Ha!
