the 'new' clip show

I thought that the July 9th clip show with the extra 15 minutes, was indeed better than the original clip show. I loved seeing more clips of the secondary characters and more of the silliness that was not present in the original. I seem to remember that before the finale added the extra 15 minutes of commercials, that the original clip show was supposed to be 1 hour long, it sure would have been nice to have seen the episode shown tonight and the finale, than what transpired in May.

Well, now it made more sense - they had a heading about "Other People" which included the Newman scenes. I can just imagine how the editors of the clip show must have cringed during the first showing, with half their work sliced out.

I agree with the other writer here who says this is the true finale. I can't ever hear that bittersweet Green Day song again without thinking of the last Seinfeld. I'm sure that is why it's being constantly played on the radio since the Finale. Lots of requests.

It has been said that the cast often broke up with laughter during the shooting (as can be seen in the outtakes at the end of the clip show). It is fun to notice that sometimes they gave up re-shooting the scene and there is still an inappropriate smile, of an actor trying hard to stifle his laughter. In particular I cite The Library where Jerry cannot keep a straight face when the detective is delivering his Dragnet-like tirade. I have found quite a few scenes like this and it adds to the charm of the show.

Anyway this restored clip show tonight was a wonderful gift.

well on finale night they decided to cut back the 1 hr clip show in order to have the complete finale...that's all...they just put back in tonight the stuff that got bumped, minor characters, etc.

And did you catch the "Seinfeld following Cheers" commercial? I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I believe that was one of the original commercials from the 1st season when Seinfeld really followed Cheers on NBC.

I was pretty surprised at this bit of news myself. What happened, Dave? I was counting on you to get a copy for *me* since I didn't want to screw up the 100th episode I was taping. ;-) Which reminds me, the 2nd half is on tonight.

I've taken a vacation from taping. After 180+ (depending on how you count) episodes plus the 12 hours and change of other Seinfeld related stuff that was ALL OVER the dial during Finale Week, I've decided my collection is as complete as it should ever get.

Besides, the way I see it, those extra 15 minutes of clips must already
exist somewhere in the box of 15 tapes, so in a twisted sort of way,
I've already taped them.

I sure do. hey, didja catch the first 10 minutes of "Deconstructing Harry"? Wow. I was floored. I mean, it seemed she remained in 'Elaine' character during the whole "Finish it up before the blind grandmother catches on" scene.

That's a big problem for me.  Seeing Julia in any role will always
remind me of Elaine.  'Leslie' wasn't having sex with Richard Benjamin,
it was Lainie!

I'm surprised that so many people are surprised about this. Don't people read newspapers and magazines anymore? :-) I read (either in my local newspaper or Entertainment Weekly or both, I forget which) that the clip show was supposed to be an hour long but got trimmed because the finale ran 15 minutes long; and also that last night's re-airing would be the fully-restored 1-hour clip show.

You're right, though, Carol . . . it was odd that there was so little Puddy, just the "Jesus fish" clip, as far as I can recall. He had become a frequent character in the last season-and-a-half, not to mention his 2 appearances prior to that. When they were showing a series of very short clips, I would like to have seen a brief "High five."

And they definitely should have included perhaps the best Puddy scene, from "The Face Painter" - - the conversation about "How come dip's just a snack? Why can't you have it for dinner? I don't understand stuff like that." and then after a near break-up and reconciliation, "I'll be back, we'll make out."

I didn't have a blank tape or I would've taped it. Not only was the rerun longer it was better. I liked the way they had more outtakes and the fact they added new sections like "Embarassing Situations" and "People we Know."

Is it my imagination, or was there a lot more than 15 minutes' worth of different or added material in the rerun clip show? It seemed very substantially different from the original run on May 14...quick impression, that per- haps half of the hour was material that wasn't used that first time.
