If DIce is so funny, then where the hell is he now?

BTW, SCTV is on reruns here during the day, and it consistently has me in HYSTERICS. Just looking at Andrea Martin is enough. I don't recall thinking it was that funny when it was on originally; I guess I was too young then to appreciate it?? WHen was it on anyways?

ObSeinfeld: I could've sworn I saw Michael Richards in a promo for the ConeHeads that they showed on Entertainment TOnight (?). I was just flipping channels and it was only for a second. I think he was playing a cabbie? Confirmations? Denials?

who's Michael Richards? is that Kramer (sorry, I'm not a hard core seinfeldian). if so, confirmations. he basically plays the same character as in seinfeld (not to say that seinfeld is the limit of Michael's acting ability)

Oh, SCTV!! I used to love that show. I'm so glad that Comedy Central picks up bits and pieces of it. I believe it was first run a little over 10 years ago on NBC. It used to come on after the Tonight Show on Friday nights (or was it on Saturday nights, after SNL? Someone help me out here! :) Keep in mind I used to watch it religiously, but I was around ten or so myself, so the logistics are a bit fuzzy. :)

Actually, I remember being annoyed when I found out that SCTV was going to be cancelled and David Letterman's new show was going to be taking its time slot. I soon became a big Letterman fan, too, so all was more or less forgiven. :)

SCTV is approximately 10 years old as you say(a little closer to 15 I believe). SCTV was aired on the Canadian Broadcasting Corportion(CBC) station in Canada before it ever touched a US station. To my knowledge all the actors/actresses in it were homegrown Canadians. Some have gone on to further greatness such as John Candy and Martin Short.

I remember the first time I saw SCTV when I was in Junior High. The show came on at 11:30 I believe and was only 1/2 hour in the early days. It was on Friday night BTW. I told my friends about it and told them to watch the next week but it wasn't on! Of course they laughed in my face. But the week after that it was on again and we happend to be sleeping at a friends house and we all got to watch it. Talk about busting a gut. We watched it faithfully for many years after. I started to lose interest when the show went too "commercial" when they expanded it to 1 hour and 1 1/2 hour shows. The skits were just not as funny on average any more and the premises were pretty sad.

I'm not sure what this is doing in alt.tv.seinfeld, but I couldn't let this go uncorrected...

It first aired on the Global network (or whatever it was called at the time) in 1976, 30 minutes a week in the summer. It aired around 7:30PM Tuesday or Thursday evenings (boy that's lame when I can remember what time a TV show was on, 17 years later...) and my parents thought this was the weirdest thing they had ever seen, and even worse than the dreaded Monty Python. It was hilarious, and this was way before Martin Short or Rick Moranis. Harold Ramis was part of the cast, though... Take a look at the early shows and try to guess Catherine O'Hara's age - she looks to be about 17!

They all did work in Canada, but not all are Canadians (I think Harold Ramis, Joe Flaherty, and Andrea Martin are American - don't quote me).

This would be the second run, on CBC. After NBC picked them up they expanded to 90 minutes (bad move).

Of course, I'm assuming we all agree that SCTV was both the funniest and most clever TV show ever made.... :-)

Allow me to bring this discussion back to alt.tv.seinfeld relevance....

I first saw SCTV in a 1/2 hour format on my local PBS station. This was long before the NBC 90 minute show.

The other day I got into an argument with a friend about whether or not Michael Richards used to be on SCTV. I figured he was thinking of Fridays, but he insisted, no, a long time ago MR was on SCTV. Is this right? I don't remember ever seeing him on the show, and I'm pretty good when it comes to SCTV trivia.

Your friend is wrong - if MR was on SCTV it was a bit part or something, because he was never part of the cast. I did like him on Fridays, though (along with Melanie Chartoff...:-) )

It was originally aired on the CBC, and then picked up by NBC. That's why there's all the Bob&Doug Great White North Stuff on it. I think our NBC channel (Minot) used to air it after SNL.

Tom Sneider used to have the time slot after Carson so you really should forgive Letterman everything. :)
