This doesn't have much to do with Seinfeld, but I'm curious. I think I need a New Yorker to help me with this. Lately I've noticed in a lot of film and television about New Yorkers the phrase "Not for nothin......" Can anyone tell me the proper use of the phrase? Thanks-- Brett

There is NO proper use for this phrase.

I have never heard this being used on the streets of NYC, but I do believe that it has been used in some shows, possibly NYPD Blue. As I recall, one tough guy would say to another tough guy, "Hey, not for nothin', but I's a noticed your brother hangin' 'round that drug dealer again." In this case it means "I don't mean to stick my nose into your business, but I think I should inform you."
