A few seasons ago, another guy played Jerry's dad...who was he and why did they get rid of him?

Phil Bruns played Morty Seinfeld in the first episode. He also played Mary Hartman's dad in the seventies.

George's Dad was also played by a different actor in his first appearance (although those scenes were re-shot with Jerry Stiller for syndication).
