Actually, I don't think that this can be done, at least sufficiently, without someone seeing them first hand. I'll try.

Picture those little BIC cigarette lighters. Now, instead of an oval shaped cylinder, picture it as rectangular. At the top, there is some variation of a head that flips open with the thumb. Out pops this strange egg shaped, though elongated, white doo hickey. You put it in your mouth and experience strange sensations of flavor. They sort of look like mouse eggs. Tiny, teenie mice. They were commonplace in my day but, just like the thought in the title "Naked Lunch", if you started to think about what you were doing, swallowing little white mouse eggs, flavored, you might go insane. Perfect Seinfeld material.

No, no, no. Pez dispensers are exactly like Chinese fortune cookies, only you get them at Morroccan restaurants instead. Let's try not to tease these new-comers, OK? You wouldn't like it if it were *you*.

You learn something new every day : I never realized mice lay eggs. :D

Seriously though, considering the fellow who asked the question about the dispensers is from Canada, am I to assume these devices aren't sold outside the U.S.? That would surprise me to be honest, but anything's possible.

Perhaps we'll get lucky and tonight's episode won't be a re-run.

No, Pez are sold in Canada, and have been for some time. This whole thread about Pez and their relation to Seinfeld seems odd to me. I seem to remember this Pez-fixation a few years ago. When the movie _Stand_By_Me_ came out, as a matter of fact. I forget the exact quote, but one of the characters is asked: "If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?"

and the reply is:

"Cherry Pez."

(Again, this is definitely misquoted.) Some of my friends, who had never had Pez went out in search of some in Ottawa, eventually successfully.

Not a bad choice for a diet, if you ask me. I wouldn't bother loading the dispenser though.

This is *NOT* a flame, but the correct quote is, "Cherry *flavored* PEZ." I thought it was especially funny because I did not expect a twelve(?)-year-old to make the distinction between cherry flavoring and Natural Cherry PEZ.

Well, the original poster from Montreal must not be very old (either that or I'm getting old ;-) ). I remember being able to get Pez dispensers here in Vancouver and Victoria when I was younger (in the 60's) but they sort of fell out of favour. When they appeared on Seinfeld, I thought I'd look for some again only to find that no one around here knew what they were, much less sold them. I remember also being able to buy refills when I was younger but when I was in S.F. earlier this month, all I could find were dispensers with 2 or 3 packages of candy. Needless to say, I bought a dozen to bring back to Canada to amaze and delight friends and family. BTW, can you buy refills down there?

p.s. Someone around here said that they saw some Pez at a Zellers but couldn't remember when (could have been last year or even back in the 80's).

Hey, I'm Canadian, eh. Like we get PEZ dispensers, eh. I even got Moosehead's a beer, eh. A real beer, with 5.5% alcohol, eh! Considering the fellow who answered the question is from the U.S., am I also to assume that good beer isn't sold outside Canada? Unfortunately, this doesn't surprise me!

:) :)

(Okay, I'm being a little sarcastic, eh!)

Pez is Spanish for "fish" or "tar". One doesn't normally need a dispenser for fish, but one certainly does need it for tar, especially hot tar. And that's what it is... it's a big pot that holds boiling tar, and you can tip it to pour out the tar to fill a pot-hole or to prepare someone for later feathering. You can imagine why it caused such a stir when Jerry balanced one of these things on his knee during a musical performance. How do the writers come up with this stuff?!!!

They would be if it weren't for Japan's closed pez dispenser markets. The pez dispenser manufacturers have a very strong lobby in Japan.

Picture a cigarette lighter with the head of any number of characters
      on the top,
and when you push the forehead of the character backwards a piece of
candy pops out of the neck.

Yes, it's technology at it's best:)
