posting full episodes here

Why don't we just start posting full episodes here, like most people do on warez groups and such. We could do that, instead of losing time with broken links on sites and ftp's. Tell me what you think of this possibility...

Ack, NO! This is *not* a binaries group! If you want to post episodes, create a new binaries group (e.g. alt.binaries.tv.seinfeld). Do NOT post binaries to this newsgroup!

Here are the reasons:

1. Most news servers have a limited amount of space, with new messages replacing older ones. Posting even a small binary to a non-binary newsgroup can push off *thousands* of text-based messages. Not a problem if you read newsgroups every day (like I do), but if you check 'em only every couple of days, a single binary can mean thousands of missed messages.

2. Many ISP's will DROP non-binary newsgroups that begin to get a lot of binaries. If we want this newsgroup to continue to be available to everyone, it's important that binaries not be posted here.

3. Posting binaries to a non-binary newsgroup can cost some people MONEY. Many people (especially Europeans) pay for their internet connection by the minute. To keep costs down, they log on and download all new messages at once, then disconnect and read them offline. Binaries greatly increase the amount of time they stay connected, which costs them more money. Others have a download limit per month, and don't want to exceed it because of binaries posted to non-binary newsgroups. And there are plenty of people with free, unlimited connections who also prefer to read offline since they don't want to tie up their phone.

4. For every bonehead that posts binaries, there'll be another half-dozen idiots who will think "Gee, I guess it's okay to post binaries in here. I'll upload this really cool 15MB file..." Part of the reason binaries are met with flames is avoid this--we need to make sure everyone realizes binaries are inappropriate in a non-binary newsgroup.

Yeah plus some ppl dont have it on tape, and cant get hoild of any episodes! How will it work though?

i would be very interested in having the scripts. these are TEXT files and the size is not really a problem, cuz it's 20 minutes scripts. the AVI, we can have it elsewhere.
