Jerry Moves In (20Nov97 ep)

So at the end/beginning of the backwards show, Jerry is moving in and Kramer is the neighbour. Shouldn't the correct neighbour living in that apartment when Jerry moved in be a bachelor Paul Buchman?

Well in the current universe, In the episode where George and Susan get engaged they are watching "Mad About You" so I don't count that Paul ever lived in that apartment. It was just an aberation of some sort.

No, there was an actual episode where Paul Buchman was shown as having lived in Kramer's apartment before he did. Paul came back to the apartment to get something, was talking to Kramer, and asked, "Whatever happened to that guy across the hall?" or something like that, and Kramer said he was writing for TV, and they both laughed hysterically. This would be proof that the Buchmans and the Seinfeld gang are in the same world. Also, the Buchmans are in the same world as "Friends" because of the Phoebe/Ursula thing. However, the TV laws of time and space get warped because, as you said, Susan and George watched an episode of "Mad About You," which would mean the two worlds had not collided, and were in fact separate.

Well obviously someone is not paying all that much attention, or just not caring, since Paul living in Kramer's apartment before he did and remembering Jerry wouldn't make sense with last night's scene of Kramer already being there while Jerry moved in

Unless Paul was on vacation (or home) and Kramer was mooching his apartment the day Jerry moved in.

Just kidding.

Thats a good question, and I always thought Jerry moved in before Kramer ever did.

While I do like it when TV "worlds collide," I do sometimes have to allow for each series to contend with their own established continuity.

Since the Kramer/Paul Buchman scene aired on "Mad About You," we sort of do have to draw the line and allow for that to be "real" in the "Mad About You" storyline/universe.

But it doesn't fit in on the "Seinfeld" storyline (since we saw George and Susan watching "Mad About You"), then we do have to pretend that not all of what we see merges cleanly in the worlds created by different series.

THis is an amazing string. How funny that must have been Buchman with Kramer!

I just happen to catch the Nanny a couple of nights ago. And to my surprise one of the characters looked like she had gained 30 pounds! I said to my husband, she must be pregnant. Right then she referred to Seinfeld and Elaine Benes and how she was nine months pregnant and no one mentioned it on the show! Obviously she was making fun of her real life situation. A few moments later she came in holding a sign that said Baby with a big arrow pointing to her tummy. It was pretty funny.

I just mentioned this on this string since once again someone earlier wrote this and I changed it to fit the Nanny.

You are absolutely right, Jerry's original neighbor was Paul Buchman and when he moved out Kramer took the apartment. Also, in the earlier episodes, Kramer was a sort of pathetic character, who was constantly unshaven and moping about. The Kramer from last nights first meeting was a little more upbeat and appeared more well spoken.

Yes, you know, I remember that episode where Paul came and got a key from Kramer when he married Jamie. You're right--Paul lived there 11 years ago. I think writers don't give viewers any credit for remembering things.

Good point. 2 possible explanations: Cosmo and Paul were roomies or more plausible knowing Kramer like we do, he was just hanging out there mooching.

I hate to say it, but this makes sense, since Paul was subletting to Kramer and could easily have met Jerry (it was Paul's place even while Kramer lived there). However, this still doesn't explain George and Susan watching Mad About You. Unless, since their timelines have diverged since the Paul/Kramer episode (ie, Seinfeld is "ahead" of Mad about you in TV time), Paul has parlayed his Buchman documentary into a TV deal about his life and has called it "Mad About You" the way Jerry tried his hand at a "Seinfeld" pilot. Then George and Susan could have been watching that.

He he! Here I was thinking "what a dumb thread!" but now I think we've come up with the most plausible (if stupid) solution!

the ep of MAY made it seem that Paul and Jerry were old friends - old enough for p to laugh about j w/K-man. Also, the ep in question was in the 2nd or 3rd season of MAY. Paul had moved recently (2 or 3 years) before that meeting. Which throws off the whole time line, as Seinfeld is older than MAY. nik ps the other thing I like about this timeline dispute is the Courtney Cox thing. Seinfeld and MAY are linked by Paulie; MAY and Friends are linked by Ursula and Pheobe; Courtney's been on Friends and Seinfeld.

The Courtney Cox thing is not a timeline dispute. There are actors/actresses that have played multiple roles on Seinfeld. These are merely different characters played by the same actress. The MAY thing was a potential dispute because Michael Richards played Kramer on both shows. I think we have resolved that, however.
