Cosmo/Kramer: what the hell does he do for a living?

I have been following the show for years, but I still can't figure out what Kramer's job is. Does he simply mooch cash of others or what?

I'm losing sleep over this and my dog has stopped talking to me - please help!!

My theory is that Cosmo is an Idiot Savant and parlays his money by playing the tracks for bookies and the mob. Think about it, he's been shown on a couple of episodes at the track, he has a known addiction to gambling, and like George said, " he falls ass backward into money and has sex without dating". Also, think who's paying for a $800/month apartment, Jacuzzi in the living room, and a membership to a trendy health club. But of course this is television and they don't need to make sense;>

One guess Is that he's a freelance photographer. I mean he has lots of photography equipment in his apartment as seen in the Nipple Episode. Just as guess though.

Kramer doesn't do anything as Elaine has pointed out. He somehow fell into a great sum of money, but I don't know exactly how. Notice how he's always trying to get money from inventions. "The Beach" cologne or perfume, the coffee table book, the bro(the manzier), a peanut butter and jelly only restaurant(PB and J's). Just a few examples. He doesn't have a job and he shops at the price club. He also has no problem taking things from Jerry's apartment whenever he wants, including running water, and heat.

I think this is one of the aspects to Kramer's persona that he hides. It's like Kramer's first name. Jerry was trying to find it out for years but Kramer hid it from him. Jerry never knew and the same I guess can be said of Kramer's profession. Perhaps one day, Kramer's boss will make an appearnce and George will be right there to find out what his source of income is. Though it can't be too much since Kramer can't even prroduce $50 to pay Jerry back for the food he takes from Jerry's frig.

i always thought kramer was independently wealthy and his only income is from investments in various businesses. jerry has mentioned a few times that kramer doeesn't do anything and things like that that have led me to my conclusion.

Kramer doesn't have a job. I think he inherited his money somehow. I'm not sure. I have been wondering how he got his money for a really long time now. If anybody knows, please let me know. Was it from gambling? Jerry mentioned once that he hadn't made a bet in a really long time.

In all honesty, I would guess that Kramer is a gigolo. Right now, that would be the only logical explanation, which would explain the photography equipment and all the chicks that has his number. As for the lack of experience with the I.R.S., the logical explanation would be that he doesn't report his income (How many prostitutes, of any "genre," file their tax forms?).

About 3 hours ago I just wached the episode where Jerry got audited and it was mentioned that Kramer had no income.

I want to have the non-job that Kramer has, and be able to live the life he does!

So, if Kramer is independently "wealthy", why is he does he do things such as trucking bottles/cans into Michigan for the extra 5 cent deposit, or try to squeeze money out of the Bank manager (season finale) because the teller did not specifically say "Hello"? I can't imagine that he is THAT bored. Why isn't he spending his time spending his money?

I don't think Kramer is that wealthy. I think he probably has enough money to supply him with basics for the rest of his life, but for golf money, etc., he has to work the "short con."

Geez, all this speculation, and such little imagination! Kramer DOESN'T WORK! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out! He's a remittance man with a medium size trust fund which allows him the freedom to meet his basic needs: Rent, clothes and food. The rent is obviously his biggest expense, and must be at least $12K-$15K a year. His clothes come from the vintage and thrift shops, and he mooches a lot of food from Jerry, and probably his other friends as well.

Not working allows him time to come up with hare-brained schemes for supplementing his income, such as the great bottle-deposit fiasco, the bank teller greeting scam, the beltless trench coat deal with Morty, the coffee table book about coffee tables, etc.

The material possessions of Kramer are probably the result of dumpster-diving or some incredible deal he got on some merchandise. I certainly wouldn't put it past him to have unwittingly purchased stolen merchandise from a fence. He will often try to turn these acquisitions into a scam of some sort. That's the way Cosmo operates.

I realize that Babs Kramer did not look like she was rich either, but the show that she was featured in did point up the fact that she was a scammer herself, and my guess is that Kramer's father may have been the same. In any case, as has been mentioned in this news group more times than I care to remember, Kramer has a knack for falling ass-backwards into money.

Somehow, Kramer gets along. Don't even try to figure it.

I think he lives off others, while winnning stuff, remember the eposode were he won big on the horse race?, and recently the one where he recieved 20 for not being greeted with an hello?
