Sorry to bum you out, but the cookie was not rotated. Jerry was eating it from one end because there were bite marks only on one end. Hence, the cookie did not rotate, it must have been switched.

If you got a kick out of that you should check out the scene in When Harry Met Sally where they are driving to New York after college. Especially noticeable when they are in the diner and he makes a pass at her is her hair. Her Farrah Fawcett-do keeps changing shape. (By the way, I once had that hair, and you never could get it to look quite the same two days in a row.)

Good point. Chalk another problem up to the continuity person not being perfect. Either that or them jerking us around. I'd believe the latter more...

Bad point...reviewing the video tape shows the bite marks to correspond to Jerry turning the same cookie in his hands.

I agree that this debate is trivial, but the analogy you made is wrong...the point of that episode of Star Trek was the same point that Jerry was satirizing, about people not getting along because they look different from one another. The debate of this thread is whether Jerry switched cookies, or simply turned the cookie in his hands...which are both matters of fact...not opinion, prejudice, or preference. I originally started pointing this out because I thought that too many people were getting kicks out of thinking they found some sort of filming inconsistency or error....or even worse, that Jerry was trying to put one over on the audience. Everyone who posted about the issue in this way seemed to have overlooked the obvious in the excitement to have something juicy to post about. Now if that is not trivial, what is?

It would make sense for Jerry to rotate the cookie, because he was trying to get bites of both sides at the same time in the name of racial harmony. You can only bite down so far before it becomes extremely dificult to eat out of the middle. In fact, I wondered if he was going to turn the cookie around when he had to start eating "single colors", but I forgot to check and didn't notice a switch.

Did anyone ever stop and think that the cookie could have been coated on both sides and that Jerry was actually _flipping_ the cookie in between cuts? That would explain everything...the switching of color orientation _and_ the fact that the bite mark was always on the top.

Sorry Mark, you have obviously never had a black and white cookie!! They were my favorite bakery item when I was growing up in NY, so I know that they are only coated on one side! It was a good thought, though!

I think (/hope) that Jerry was just jerking us around, switching the colors between takes. It does make it all the more deep (/corny) when you think of it this way.

: I hate to break this to you, but since you can see on the video tape that the cookie Jerry was eating was solid black all the way through on one half, and solid white all the way through on the other...so it looks like Jerry did not get his cookie from your favorite bakery while you were growing up. What makes you think that your favorite bakery while you were growing up was the only one to sell black and white cookies anyway? Pretty haphazard logic on your part.

I said "favorite bakery item," not "item from my favorite bakery." Black and white cookies -like bagels or challa - are a bakery item that can be purchased at MANY bakeries. I, myself, have bought them at many NY bakeries. Never seen one that was black and white all the way through, but I suppose it is possible - although QUITE unorthodox! All the ones that I've ever seen are white cookies with black and white frosting - very tasty! I'll admit that I couldn't see Jerry's cookie very well (bad TV reception and no VCR), but I don't think that my logic was all that "haphazard!"

Look, I didn't mean to flame, but your logic was that since you have had them before, the original poster was "obviously mistaken". This type of language in posts tends to draw flame-like reactions. The fact of the matter is you responded positively, although there is a good possibility that you weren't correct yourself...which is haphazard. I have lived in the Chicago area all of my life, but I couldn't really say that just because the Affy-Tapple factory is here, and that I have gotten taffy apples there, that those must be the only kinds of taffy covered apples in the world...or even in Chicago for that matter.

But I apologize for any offense I may have caused in my defense of the cookie fiasco.
