Andrea Doria question

One of the sub-plots was Elaine being paranoid about her "big head". There was a funny scene where Elaine is hit in the head by a bird which is observed by an old black man sitting on a park bench who remarks on it.

Just saw "The Shining" a few weeks ago and it seem like the old black guy in "The Shining" is the same as the one in the Andrea Doria episode.

Anybody know?

In any event this scene seems to be a reference to any number of Stephen King stories where some old black guy is prescient enought to foreshadow something bad coming up. . .

Not the same guy. Scatman Crothers was in "The Shining" (he was also the voice of Hong Kong Phooey for those of you old enough to remember).

The old man who comments on Elaine's big head was played by Fred Pinkard.

I don't know about that "foreshadowing" stuff. Nothing "bad" happens later. The bird WAS the bad thing, causing Elaine yet more self-doubt, right then, right there. And prior to that the cabbie kept asking her to move her head so that he could see through the rear window of the cab. (Or maybe the cabbie came AFTER the bird; I don't know.) Does it really matter? It was just a series of things that reinforce the "boyfriend's" claim that she has a big head. It could have been worse...he could have called her a pinhead.
