Cable TV to air nothing during final episode

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet. During the final 1 hour episode of Seinfeld, CABLE TV's channel TV LAND will air nothing, that's right, absolutely nothing.

They will run an image of TV Land's closed office doors and a message that the network will return after the episode. No commercials will be shown during that time either.

Why are they doing this? G.M. Larry W. Jones said "Nothing is more important than the last episode of 'Seinfeld.' We think airing nothing is a fitting salute to a show about nothing."

I think all the networks should just close down on May 14, 1998 from 9-10 pm. Its not like anyone's gonna watch the WB or ABC on Thursdays (most people don't even do that anyway), so they all should just post up signs saying "What the hell are you doing here? Turn you're channel to NBC and watch the final Seinfeld" for 1 hour, no commercials at all.

IIRC, Comedy Central did the same thing during the last "Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson".

Which, it should be noted, will be more enjoyable viewing for TV Land watchers than the station's normal linup of Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and Mr. Ed.

Hey, Green Acres is one of the best shows ever! Quite surrealistic.

Of course, no commercials would be aired on TV Land during their broadcast silence. Who would pay to have their commercials aired when no one's watching? I am not sure if TV Land is really doing this out of respect for Seinfeld or because they expect their ratings to plummet during the Seinfeld finale just because so many people will be watching Seinfeld anyway.

I would file this one under "Making the best of a situation".
If they're sure nobody will be watching, where's the harm
in saying it's really an act of altruism?   Shouldn't burn any
bridges, I anticipate Nick at Nite airing Seinfeld episodes at
some point in the future (Maybe the distant future).
