NYC Subways (was Last line of Jerry's monologue:

No way! I was once on a semi-crowded (every seat was taken, but not very many folks were standing) A Train going downtown from Columbus Circle and some maniac broke a bottle of gasoline or some flammable liquid on the floor ... AND LIT IT!!! As the train pulle to a stop at the next station, the liquid (and the flame) rolled forward with the momentum of the train.

No one was hurt (except for the guy that set the fire). We caught him on the stairs at the station and beat the holy shit out of him until the cops came. Then New York City's finest took thier turn at beating the shit out of him.

This was very very scary, and I hear stuff like this happens all the time on the A train.

Bill, I have to recant. You're right about the A train; definitely the scariest in M'hattan. I recall the hilarious line from John Sayles' "Brother From Another Planet":

(on the A train as it pulls into 59th Street)

"Want to see a magic trick? Watch me make all the white people disappear."

(explanation for non-NYers: after 59th Street on the lovely upper west side, the A's next stop is 125th St. way up in Harlem...)

FYI non-New Yorkers, one takes the E-train to see the U.S. Open Tennis tournament in Queens. It's only a shame that the E does not go by Columbia ...

Geez, just when I came to accept moving to Chicago, I stumble onto this show ... well, at least "Sisters" takes place around here ...

I went to Columbia too and boy, that 1 train can spoil you. Except for those recent incidents with the Uzi-toting robbers, I guess.
