Mariska Hargitay in 'The Pilot'

In 'The Pilot', when people are auditioning, an Elaine hopeful is about to read her lines, when Jerry jumps in to read with her. The two have a great exchange of lines, which I don't think is in the scripts they are about to read. It was a very typical 'Seinfeld' conversation. I can't understand why she didn't get the part. Any theories ?

Anyway, my question : Is Mariska playing that character ? (I did not recall any other possibilities in that episode.) I know she used to have much longer hair (in ER for example) than she does now (in Law & Order: SVU), but she also seemed taller/thinner. Was that her ?
