United States of Seinfeld

Idea for a new list: States of the Union that are mentioned by name. Let's see how many of the 50 have been mentioned (US Territories count). The state has to have been actually mentioned, not just alluded to (example: If Elaine says she grew up in Baltimore, that would not count as a Maryland mention).

A few to start:

New York (numerous episodes) Florida (numerous) California (The Trip, The Finale) Michigan (The Seinfeld Chronicles) Massachusetts (The Finale) Puerto Rico (The Implant)

Puerto Rico is not a state...it is a US Territory (or protectorate or principality or something). As I stated in the premise of ths list, Territories count.

The first on my list was New York, which I assumed to be a given, but upon further review, I realize it may be difficult to find an instance where NY is mentioned as a _state_ (as opposed to NYC). So, until someone can point out a New York State mention, it's off the list.

Add to the list: Hawaii (Newman tried to be transferred there).

Well, in any case, Maryland was mentioned when Elaine said something to the tune of "My father's driving back to Maryland tonight."

Was Arkansas specifically mentioned in "The Muffin Tops", or just Little Rock?

When Tony, the psycho mechanic, stole Jerry's car, I think Kramer started following him in Pennsylvania, but I'm not sure.

Arizonia is mentioned in the Pony Remark. Issac, Manya's husband is moving there after her death. Maine is mentioned in The Suicide where George dreams of Jerry's neighbor Martin doing stand up in Maine . Virginia is mentioned in the show where George parks cars on Jerry;s street , because Sid, the guy that usually does it was in Virginia visting his sister. e is .mentioned in the episode

I know the Mississippi River is mentioned in the episode where George confesses his favorite explorer is Hernando DeSoto. That may not count as the state but Mississippi was said. Also Penn. is mentioned in the The Blood when George lies about Elaine going to live with her grandparents in Reading, Penn

The way the list was originally proposed was for specific states that have been mentioned (as states) by charaters.

So, if Kramer said "Norfolk has more..." Virginia would not qualify because all he said was the city and not the state.

"New York" Yankees refers to New York City, not the state.

Is that a valid reference to the state? (obviously I am referring to the first...) He does distinguish between "New York" and "New York City" in this episode... Put it in the list... :)

I'm still waiting for the updated list... New Jersey should definately be on it... The episode in which Kramer gets the free rubbers (and George used a blue on...), Kramer states that he got them from his friend Bob Sacamano from New Jersey... he worked at a condom factory in Edison! Remember? :) And New York should also appear... (see my post 2 threads back).

In "The Bottle Deposit", Kramer read a bunch of states off a pop can label whose deposit was only 5 cents. (I think Maine and Ohio were mentioned.)

Ohio was also mentioned by Jerry's secretary in the ep with the career day (can't remember the name.) "You have a show coming up in Dayton. That's OHIO, Jerry, OHIO."

In the Stock Tip, Jerry took a trip to Vermont.

In The Chaperone, the gang met Miss Rhode Island.

New Jersey (in the hockeygame with Puddy and also Jerrys attempt to sell the van in NJ)

I don't recall any specifics but I do remember one character talking about spending a weekend with their date in the Poconos (Pennsylvania), and then there was that episode where Jerry was going on vacation with a date to Pennsylvania Dutch Country.

The Poconos were mentioned in "The Junior Mint." Remember Elaine in the end, going, "Please can we go to the Poconos?" LOL

Massachusetts was mentioned in "The Finale." Latham, MA was where the whole thing occurred after the place landed. Latham is a fictional town, by the way, but the outdoor shots on the street, when the guy got robbed, looked just like Needham, MA, which is an affluent suburb just west of Boston. (I live not too terribly far from there.) Another tidbit - the fellow who played the victim in "The Finale" is from the Boston area. There was a stint about him in The Boston Globe when "The Finale" aired, which of course I didn't save (or did save but lost it).
