Newman's First Name

Anybody know Newman's first name? Did he even have one?

If newman ever did have a first name, it was never revealed on the
show.  For more info on this subject, load the URL in my .SIG and search
on "Newman".

I was just reading your FAQ (it is yours?). I think Newman should be under the title of Major Characters considering how often he was on. He was a veritable "fifth major character" (ala "fifth Beatle", etc) in my book.

Newman has appeared in 45 of the 180 episodes, a nice even 25%. Although I love the guy, I cannot, in good conscience, consider him in the same class as the "fab four" (to follow through on your Beatles analogy), who have each appearred in over 95% of the total.

But you bring up a good point. Newman is far too important to simply dump in with everyone else in the Minor Characters list. Maybe I can find a way to set him apart. Not necessarily a *main* character but more than just a bit parter.

Or how about The Costanzas? Since they appeared on the show, the show really stepped into another dimension!

Whatever first name he had, it was never revealed on air. There was that joke involving the farm girl who called him "Norman" in The Bottle Deposit episode, but that was clearly a goof on her part...remember when we even saw his Postal Service business card that said only "Newman"? A bigger tease even than making us wait five years to find out Kramer's first name was Cosmo...

We won't find out what his first name was, or whether he choked on his popcorn, until or unless they do a reunion movie either for TV or the theaters. And that's clearly some time away, since everyone's gone on to other things for 1998-99. Jerry's said he will spend the better part of the next year retooling his standup act and testing it out in selected venues before he thinks about anything else, Jason Alexander is directing independent films, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is planning to mix character parts in film with raising her kids, and Michael Richards is seeking another feature role on the big screen and apparently has a project or two lined up. Wayne Knight has another series (3d Rock) that keeps him busier than Seinfeld did. So it'll be maybe 2, 3, 4 years or more before any film ties up any loose ends, including Newman's full name...
