Classic TV reference in "The Pie"

So I'm watching tonight's syndicated episode and surfing the web. Elaine is trying to get her lookalike mannequin out of the 'Euro trash rag' store and Jerry acts as her counsel. He refers to "Winchell vs. Mahoney" as a precedent. The names sounded a little familiar so I did a quick search.

Now, I'm not old enough to remember them, but it's nice to have discovered another hidden reference that I havent' yet heard from anyone else or seen posted here before.

Bergen was a ventriloquist with a popular radio show and about as big a star as one could be in the show business of 1930's-40's. Bergen used several dummy characters but "Charlie McCarthy" was the one with whom he was most associated. Charlie would confront the male guest stars and flirt with the women guest stars.

Those puppets scare the shit out of me!
