Yes, I saw Mark Metcalf, aka the Maestro, on Ally McBeal! Funny thing is every time I see that actor I want to scream out, a la Flounder in "Animal House" (NOT Wayne Knight), "Hey, Niedermeyer!!!"

On Comedy Central's Daily Show, whenever they have a story about a celebrity death, they start with a photo of Mark Metcalf, followed by the chant "Niedermeyer?" "Dead!" Then they show the actor who played Dean Wormer and repeat the chant, "Dean Wormer?" "Dead!" Then they show the latest celebrity to die and wrap up the chant with that person's name. Is Mark Metcalf dead, or am I just completely misunderstanding the Daily Show joke?

You're not getting it. In "Animal House," near the end Bluto rallys the Deltas for their final revenge by screaming "Wormer? Dead!!! Niedermeyer?? Dead!!!" or something like that. (The "germans bombed Pearl Harbor" speech).

Metcalf played Neidermeyer in Animal House. After the Delta Tau Chi house was put on double secret probation, and someone (was it Otter?) was beaten up, the gang vowed to get revenge. That's where the chant came from.
