According to the Miami Herald, the next Seinfeld is . . . Survivor!

People are always looking for the 'Next Jordan,' or 'Next Kirby Puckett' or next yadda yadda yadda. Not that there's anything . . .

"Ever since Seinfeld ended its remarkable original-episode run in 1998 -- after burrowing its way into the social consciousness with catch phrases like ``yada, yada, yada,'' ``master of your domain'' and ``regifting'' -- TV has been searching for a cultural replacement.

The search not only failed to turn up a show with the same mesmerizing charm as Seinfeld -- to miss an episode often meant being left out of office conversations the next day -- but the absence of Jerry and his pals from prime time seemed to cast a pall over the entire sitcom genre.

That time of uncertainty and darkness can now be declared over: The next Seinfeld has finally emerged.

It's called Survivor."

The writer's got a good point, and I must say I completely agree with him.

Survivor has taken over the "Water Cooler Show," (or water bottle show if you're George Costanza), mantle from Seinfeld. People talk about it constantly the next day in "the offices." People say "I can't believe they did that" about Survivor as much as they did about Seinfeld. It's incredibly popular, has tons of fan Web sites, and the finale was the most watched show of the year, just as the Seinfeld finale was. It now kills the competition, even the vaunted 'must see tv,' which hadn't been beaten since the 1980s!

No other show in the 2.8 years since Seinfeld went off the air has had as much buzz to it as Survivor.

You've got to give Survivor its props.

one of my favorites is Titus. it is not seinfeld but then again who wants a rehash. I like fresh myself. as for survivor. I think the trend of "real world" (read as 120 cameras on you at all times) shows is quite disturbing. most of the people on survivor I would piss of early so I would get voted off. they are some of the stupidest that the world has to offer. they vote off the person that helps them the most or at least has the potential to. just like watching stupid short sided popularity contest back in high school.

Seinfeld lasted 9 seasons. I'd be willing to bet that Survivor lasts longer. They're already in pre-production for the 3rd and 4th installments and if they're as successful as the first two (and why wouldn't they be?) then you can bet Survivor 5 (and eventually Survivor 10) is just around the corner.

True, but in the sense that they're the shows that people talk about at work the next day, they're very similar. It's only 8:15AM and I've already had three Survivor related conversations with three different people. And I haven't even taken a smoke break yet.

Why sad? Because you don't watch it?
