Hi! Pardon my ignorance, but reading some of the posts here makes me wondering about some things...
1. What is poeple's opinions about black comedians who harass white people (like Chris Rock)? Would it be ok if a white comedian took one of his jokes and switched black with white and white with black?
2. Is it really OK to say that white people can't dance? Isn't that stereotyping?
3. Why can black people say words nigger and whitey and all that when whites can't???

"Harass" is not the right word. When we pay to watch Chris Rock, or the great Richard Pryor, they are performing comedy. Usually holding a mirror of reality up to the white, and black, communities. It is not a personal insult. Unlike Michael Richards who was, in anger, verbally attacking a group of black people. (more below)

Other than the ridiculous answers you will receive from the small minded racists, bigots, and idiots who started to post here, there are real reasons for this seemingly illogical dichotomy.
It has to do with the group in power and the group oppressed. And yes, blacks in America are oppressed. Many whites (of which I am one) will say they have equal opportunity, their failures are their own, etc. But the fact is many people in the black community are in a social class that is an "underclass". The reasons for it are not the issue at this stage; what is, is the actions they perceive to be racist and biased against them. When a white person calls a black person a "nigger" it is disrespectful, insulting, and demeaning. When a black person uses the word to another of his race it is not taken that way; it is not a threatening word - it is used to weaken its underlying pejorative value. When a black person, on stage, says "whitey" it is not taken as threatening or insulting; it is not a word that has the historical emotional context of "nigger", whites were not lynched for being "white" - whites do not have their grooms killed by police and their cars shot at 50 times before their wedding. http://tinyurl.com/vl6pl And no matter if this were in some insane way justified, the black community sees it as discrimination against them all. If it were a white person killed by police it would, quite rightly, not be seen as an attack on the entire white community.
So what seems to be illogical and not a fair balance between using "nigger" or "whitey" has to do with the historically and socially charged environment in which they are used.

What I would like to know is this: why aren't black people referred to as "Americans" rather than "African Americans"? Aren't all you people "Americans"?
Why must you have "Americans" and then a bunch of "Sub-Americans"?
If black people are "African Americans", what are white people, "European Americans"? Are there no black people in Europe? Are there no white people in Africa?
Do white people have any more right to be plain "Americans" than anyone else? Referring to "African Americans" is racist in itself; it makes a distinction between 'us' and 'them'.
It's like saying "Redheaded Americans" and "Blond Americans", or "Short Americans" and "Tall Americans".
Herein lies your problem. Until you refer to all Americans as "Americans" there will always be the distinction, and there will always be problems with people's acceptance of racial diversity.
