Elaine confusion

In "The Virgin", Elaine tells Marla the virgin that men say they have to get up early to avoid sex. But in "The Smelly Car" which was made later, Elaine doesn't understand what it means when her boyfriends says he has to get up early when she smells. Peter Mehlman co-wrote both episodes so you'd think he had noticed this beforehand.
