Regifting is on the rise.
A survey from Plantation-based DHL shows 40 percent of people polled admitted to recycling unwanted holiday gifts they have received from friends or loved ones. That's up 15 percent since 2004.
Not surprisingly, the shipping firm also reported nearly eight in 10 people surveyed said they are comfortable shipping their gifts to friends and loved ones.
DHL said more than seven in 10 of those polled said they send their holiday packages during the first two weeks of December to ensure timely delivery. But nearly eight in 10 respondents said they wait until Christmas morning to open gifts from long-distance relatives.
The survey results are based on telephone interviews with 500 adults who ship during the holidays, 18 years of age or older, living in private households in the continental United States, DHL said.
The company said Telephone Centre conducted the interviews, Nov. 10-19. The margin of error is about plus or minus 4.5 percent.
