Yes, he produced and starred in "Comedian" and he talked about it. Remember, as Will Ferrell and Jack Black attested to, comedians are not well accepted at the Academy Awards. Jim Carrey pretty much ended it forever but they are making a slow comeback.

The reasoning was that he's extremely funny, very popular, and he was willing to do it. Contrary to what the original poster said, his brief apperance was better than about 90% of the rest of teh show.

I thought he was terrific too. Like I said he knows how to work an audience (Ellen sure doesn't).

She's awful at hosting. I didn't want to respond to the earlier homophic rant against her, but gawd, her "I'm a cute little puppy dog - pet me!" is cringe - inducing. I can barely sit through one of her AMEX ads, let alone her talk show. (Strangely enough though, I enjoy her stand up shows - she seems more at ease in those circumstances)

But at a high brow event like the oscars- she's as out of her depth as Letterman.

I think they should follow the cue of the Grammys and the Emmys: Just go hostless. Have someone funny do one good monologue at the beginning of the show and just let the presenters take it from there.

Narration is the lazy, cheap way to get laughs. The show has nothing new to add to the sitcom genre (like everything else currently on TV).

A good comedy should be original- without the rehashed jokes or situations. "My Name is Earl" is none of these and is an old-joke festival - much like "Sex & the City".

I absolutely can't stand Sex/City... uhhmm the show I mean.
