Now that we get the Comedy Channel on Cable here I have watched some of the old Golden Years of Television shows - great memories.
One of these is the Abbot and Costelo show. Some people have said Jerry modelled some of his show after theirs. There certainly is a similarity.
The show started and ended with a 'Monologue', There was the interplay with neighbours and sessions in the Coffee Shop. Also it was generally about nothing: i.e. no real plot or conflict to resolve in 30 minutes.
Neat.
Jerry hosted a special about the two about 3 years ago. Around the time of the 100 episode. He admitts to be an admirer of the duo.

THAT'S WHY I PUT MONOLOGUE IN QUOTES.
Basically, both shows involve the comedians being on a stage, in front of a curtain, often doing some sort of routine. "The Abbott & Costello Show" always began and ended that way.
BTW, last night's Seinfeld rerun mentioned a cranky old man named Sid Fields. Wasn't there also a cranky old man on A&C with that name???
Sid Fields, a bald headed guy, played A+C's landlord. He was allways going to throw them out for slow payment of rent. He was a funny guy; got into arguments with Lou over trifles. One of the best bits, is the "Niagra Falls" routine, a classic.
