Seinfeld and Internet

Has anyone ever seen Jerry use his computer in an episode of the show? Do you suppose he knows of this newsgroup? Wouldn't it be a hoot if he had an episode where he was reading this newsgroup and something developed from there? Better yet, what if the "real" Seinfeld does log in here and he is reading my message right now? WOW - what if this message gives him the idea to include this in an episode?!?!? Whew.... That can't happen, because in our world Seinfeld is a show, and in the show's world it is his life. He can hardly mention a newsgroup that treats his 'life' as a TV show! And I don't think they'll buy the newsgroup really being about the cancelled "Jerry" show.

Plus, I doubt he has the time to read this newsgroup, although it is (remotely) possible that an aquaintance of his might mention its existence or something amusing that has popped up here. Who knows? (Thats rhetorical.)

Well, the feasibly could make this a "newsgroup that protests the cancellation of the Jerry show" and then it could be useable.

Perhaps they hire someone to read all their fan mail and that might include internet. After all, Clinton does the same thing (not that Seinfeld is secretely Clinton, although I did once dream that Seinfeld was really David Lee Roth secretely). I don't know.

We had a conversation in EJ's Luncheonette a few months back about the Entertainment Weekly cover. You told me about working with Michael Grossman and orchestrating the cover shot. You mentioned a third person (at EW) who had quite a bit of input. Who was it?

Well let's see, it should be ny.nbc.com rather than nbc.ny.com were it to be such at all. Seinfeld is filmed in Studio City on the grounds of CBS by Castle Rock. Jerry is not, strictly speaking, an employee of NBC, so it's more likely he'd be at castlerock.com were they to be on the net and he certainly wouldn't be at NBC New York. Also, just because of the sort of response it would generate, it's highly unlikely that Jerry would post under his own name anyway. We won't even mention some of the other inanities which have come up under this topic.

I blame it all on Mr. Idol.

eDoes Seinfeld even KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER??!! I mean just because their is a Mac on the show does not mean that he does! I have noticed recently that alot of Fox shows have exclusively macs, which leads me to believe that maybe Apple is trying to get some advertising by giving them out to T.V shows to get publicity. But IN ABSOLUTELY NO WAY DOES IT FOLLOW THAT SEINFELD EVEN KNOWS HOW TO USE A COMPUTER! And even if he did, does he have a modem? Lots of people have computers but have no idea what a modem is or a bbs or internet!

I have no idea what Seinfeld's educational background is like, but even ifi if he does not know how to use a computer,does not mean that he can't afford to buy 20 of them! For Christ's Sake, the man is a millionaire! By the way, he doesn't necessarily need a mac to log on! An IBM will do him just fine. But, as you know, he can afford to buy both. I have an idea for a new episode: Seinfeld logs onto the computer which is sitting in the background of the Seinfeld set (incidentally, I have never seen him use the computer on the show, have you?). Seinfeld decides then to log onto the internet and he discovers that he has a fan club. He reads our letters (mine and yours) and tries to meet us. He thanks us for allowing him to realize, for the first time ever, just how rich he ever, just how rich he really is. In his gratitude, he gives me one million dollars, and he gives you the other million dollars. What do you think?

First of all, for those of you that responded in this context, the newsgroup wouldn't have to be about the defunct tv show...Jerry plays a public figure on the show anyway (as a standup comic). There could be a newsgroup that follows his standup career. They show and allude to him on talk shows all the time. And no one can say that they haven't seen more obscure newsgroups than that...

But...I think you are all missing the obvious. As far as the topics for newsgroups go, Kramer would be a more likely forum. If he can fall ass-backwards into money, women, and mickey mantle, why can't he fall ass-backwards into cyberspace. And his character is able to just pull something like that out of his hat anyway. Kramer needs reasons and explanations for absolutely nothing he does. But to maintain some sort of reality, I am sensing that Kramer starts using Jerry's computer to keep up to date with alt.fan.cuban-cigars...for starters.
