Jerome/Jerry?

Is (the character) Jerry Seinfelds real name Jerome, or what? Is it just a nick name that Elaine calls him sometimes?

Jerry's given name is Jerome. Jerry is short for Jerome.

BTW, I remember once when Elaine messed up and instead of calling him Jerome or Jerry, she said "Jeromy". But for the life of me, I can't remember the episode.

Jerry is short for Jerome, just like Mike is short for Michael and Jim is short for James and Dave is short for David
