Elaine's Vegetarianism?

Speaking of inconsistencies, this one is pretty blatant: in Episode 27, "The Stranded," where Elaine has that argument with George's fur-sporting inamorata, she announces that she is, indeed, a vegetarian. But we all know she's not averse to eating our feathered friends--watch her drooling for Poppie's duck, ("I love duck!" The Couch), or inhaling chicken infested with poppy seeds, ("just pick a glass, Mrs. Seinfeld, pick a glass!"), and even eyeing a Monk's turkey club after being the target of racism, (The Wizard). Perhaps birds aren't "meat" for our little Lainey.

Alright Sir, what about the way she readily devoured Holly's mutton, ("Thanks for Mutton!")? Indeed, her diet consists exclusively of a wide assortment of thinly sliced meats when she's trapped in her apartment, (The Slicer) and thus completely dependent upon Kramer's latest brain child.

Is it possible that Elaine lied about her vegetarianism to save herself from the age-old fur-lover's trump card?

Of course another possibility is that she simply stopped being a vegggie. I first thought this in the episode where Kramer had the fighting cock (rooster) and she not only went to the fight, but never said a word against it. Not something you'd expect from a veggie. Note also that by the time Puddy had his fur coat, she didn't care about that either ("Who has the time anymore?")

(Take Kramer's abthing habits for example: He gets asked something about taking showers and replies "I only take baths" but in later episodes there is the low water pressure episode and the making salad in the shower episode.)

Whatever works for the episode at hand. They aren't real people, they don't have to be consistent.

Well, they aren't "red meat" anyway. Some people avoid red meat for health reasons. This I can understand. it's the ones who won't eat meat because of the "poor little animals that have to die" that I find to be a mystery.

I doubt it. It seems that Elaine ate meat when there was no alternative. Even vegetarians, when faced with the choice of eating meat or starving, will choose to eat the meat.

And I've yet to meet a long term surviving vegan. Everyone goes through the requisite freshman year of college anti-everything-our-parents-taught/us-fuck-the-establishment phase, and you know what? Reason reigns and we get over it and get a real cause. I'd love to video these fur-and-meat protests and show them to the demonstrators in 5 years. I'd be in horror if someone did that to me.

And, additionally, it's quite possible that over 9 years Elaine's lifestyle might have changed, right? I mean I was a vegan for three years, but I gave that up for various reasons. Elaine Benes, the character, can certainly be a veggie in one episode and then eat a big roast beef samwich a few years down the road!
