Fans debate whether "The Chinese Restaurant" is a classic episode, with mixed reactions to the humor and George's memorable one-liners.
I'm so glad that when Seinfeld does re-runs they are not from this season, but Seinfeld Classics. The Chinese Restaurant episode is a perfect example of this. How many people here would go up to someone's table and steal an eggroll for fifty bucks? I'd do it.

I wouldn't rate this as a classic on the scale of The Contest or The Toilet Paper but it did provide one of the best Georgisms:
Elaine: "George, would you steal an eggroll for fifty bucks?"
George: "For fifty bucks? I'd stick my head in the soup bowl and blow."

I almost sprayed my tube with coffee thinking about that one again...
I hadn't seen this episode before, and thought it was good, but I thought that it was a bit over rated. I've seen others that I thought were funnier.
"Cartwright?...Cartwright?"
I think what's so special about the Chinese Restaraunt episode is more the concept than the execution. The episode is the quintessential "show about nothing". It runs real time. It's a situation that's happened to all of us. Nothing happens. It may not be as outrageous or taboo on the surface as say, "The Contest", but conceptually its alot further out there.

Did anyone else think that the "Cartwright" thing was downplayed? If I were George, I would be ragging on that guy and stressing the fact that "Costanza" and "Cartwright" sound nothing the same. George just accepted the fact and just sat there. It seemed "un-George-like".

Seems strange that an episode so good was done entirely without the aid of Kramer. It's funny to think of what Kramer's problem in the restaurant would have been, eh?
