The Best ever or just another great show ending its run??

Forget all the stuff about the last two seasons not being as good as the first seven, because a year from now when they're all in syndication, no one will care whether it came from season 9 or season 1. Is Seinfeld, a show about nothing, pound for pound, the best sitcom of all time? Its up against Cheers, The Cosby Show, All in the Family, I Love Lucy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Happy Days, and The Honeymooners, (and Frasier, but that hasn't ended its run yet). Take all the classic episodes of Seinfeld and put it up against the best of every other sitcom in history, then make your decision. Just for the record, I think Seinfeld is the best sitcom ever.

The Cosby Show and Happy Days don't belong anywhere near MY list of the greatest sitcoms. I'd have to add Newhart and Designing Women. For my money Newhart is the best of the lot, with Seinfeld a solid second.

On to the question at hand. I know the phrase 'broke the mold' is trite and overused, but it's still appropriate. There has never been a sitcom that defied the fill-in-the-blanks, cookie cutter mentality that pervades nearly all comedy shows. Seinfeld really screwed things up for every hack writer in Hollywood. Now that the bar's been raised, they should be forced to write at a higher level.

Yeah, right. What dream world am I living in? Once Seinfeld is over, the world of TV comedy will return to the garbage we'd gotten used to. A overhears something that B says to C, but mishears it so A thinks C is pregnant/gay/really a man etc. and all hilarity ensues.

I don't get depressed when I think of Jerry retiring. I get depressed thinking about the state of the industry once his run is over. Now that's truly sad.

Anyway, to answer the question, Seinfeld is the best, most intelligently
written, most cerebral, most entertaining sitcom ever to appear on my
TV screen.  End of discussion.  The defense rests.  Thank you.

Grammer has played the same character for what, the past 15 years? Theshow is just not that interesting/funny, or whatever. His brother is overrated as a sitcom supporting actor. His feminine ways are too stupid and doesn't deserve more than a slight grin as applause. Seinfeld is tops of all-time because of its creativity, supporting cast, and all the additional characters thrown in the fray. Just awesome.

Seinfeld is definitely one of the best tv shows ever, ranking up there with such shows as Cheers and Mystery Science Theater 3000.
