Keith Hernandez

Mr. Hernandez was interviewed on NPR's "Fresh Air" today, and talked about his role in "the Spitter." Apparently it was Jerry et al.'s idea to have him on the show; the whole crew is apparently Mets fans. They called KH's agent and set it up. It was supposed to be a half-hour show, but the writers "overwrote," and ended up with 7 extra minutes. They had to choose between cutting 7 and adding 19 minutes (to make an hour-long show). They waited until KH showed up and started rehearsing. If he had been terrible, they would have cut the 7. Instead, it turned out to be the highest-rated show ever. One more thing: he really does smoke.
