Today in my Child Development class, we were talking about contraceptives and my teacher brought up the sponge which has gone off the market. I brought up how Elaine on Seinfeld bought a bunch of them before they got rid of them. I have a question. Does any one know if she still has any sponges left and if being sponge-worthy has been mentioned recently on the show? Thanks,

I must admit that Elaine's choice of the 'sponge' as a contraceptive was a little out of character for her, given her level of neurosis. After all, the sponge is firstly not as effective as other methods, and secondly, does not offer protection against STD etc. as the condom does.
I would have thought her choice of contraception to be something like the pill, coupled with a diaphram, condom, and withdrawl (just to be on the safe side! hahahah).
Has anyone seen/heard any of the other characters talk about choice of contraception? I have a vague memory of George playing with condoms, though I am not 100% sure.

When George moves in with his parents and they are away he brings a woman from the Antique Store home - then his mother finds a condom wrapper in her bed ...
The other time is when Cosmo gets some free condoms and passes them out. He discovers later that they are defective. Much trouble ensues.
Wasn't there also an episode where Kramer gets a vasectomy and then says something like "It didn't work! I'm more fertile than ever!" Jerry and Newman are in the doctor's waiting room waiting to get their vasectomy but they change their minds and run out. Is this how it went?
Speaking of "sponge-worthy follow-up," Elaine was curious about why an ex-girlfriend of the guy she's dating wanted to stab him...she said something about his being "stab-worthy"...I think it was in the same scene that Kramer whispers that remark to Jerry that "...I'm more potent than ever."

There is also the scene (I don't remember which episode) where you see George and Susan's hands fumbling to open a condom wrapper before George reverts back to normal size.

There was an episode where Kramer had a bag of condoms (samples, friend at factory?) He offers them to the others, George takes one - blue - for his date. Turns out to be defective. The date was talking to Elaine about the evening, and Elaine knew it was a blue condom.
This might be the same episode when George thinks he's a father?
There was a reference to a diaphram. Remember when Elaine meets Marla the virgin and says how she's was at a party and "my diaphram just goes flying out [of my handbag]" . Before Jerry tells her that Marla is a virgin and Elaine goes to apologise to her and knocks over Ping the delivery boy ;)
