No New Sitcom for Jerry Seinfeld March 7, 2008, 11:03 AM EST NEW YORK (AP) -- Sorry, "Seinfeld" fans.

NBC and Jerry Seinfeld shot down a New York Post report Friday that the comic was in talks with the network about a new sitcom. The report, citing no sources, said Seinfeld would play himself in a New York series similar to "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

"There's nothing to it," said NBC spokeswoman Rebecca Marks.

Seinfeld's spokeswoman, Elizabeth Clark Zoia, also said the story was completely false.

"We appreciate the enthusiasm, however," she said.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" is on HBO for a reason. The language is much too explicit unlike the euphemism and innuendo used on "Seinfeld", and the topics too controversial for network suits. If they had to soften it to pass muster for network TV, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" would be just like "Seinfeld", except based in LA vs NYC. So if Jerry was in negotiation with a network rather than say HBO, to do a show like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" set in NYC, he would basically be doing "Seinfeld II", not "Curb Your Enthusiasm in NYC".
